Remember the Women Institute is partnering with The Ghetto Fighters’ House for their Talking Memory on-line webinar, The Legacy of Leadership. Following opening remarks by Yigal Cohen, CEO, Ghetto Fighters’ House, and Judith Stelmach, Project Manager, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Israel, guest speakers are Prof. Lori R. Weintrob, Petra Bayr, and Lt. Col. (Res.) Avital Leibovich. The first speaker, Lori Weintrob, Professor of History, Director, Holocaust Center of Wagner College, discusses The Leadership Lessons of Zivia Lubetkin and other Women of Courage and the significant role of the often-overlooked “Heroines of the Holocaust” in cultural, educational, spiritual, and armed resistance. The second speaker, Petra Bayr, a member of the Austrian Parliament, discusses Addressing Antisemitism in Austria in light of the strengthening of the FPÖ far right-wing party and presents the findings of her report at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Preventing and Combating Antisemitism in Europe. The third speaker, Avital Leibovich, CEO of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) in Israel, discusses Countering Antisemitism – Jewish American Activism and how AJC has been monitoring antisemitic attacks, as well as the impact of antisemitism on Jewish communities in the United States and Europe. She will address the global efforts to combat antisemitism, using policy tools, advocacy, and diplomacy. Bringing diverse perspectives on leadership then and now, the three speakers address what we have and haven’t learned, as well as what antisemitism in the 21st century demands from world leaders and the global Jewish community.
