Commemorating Women and the Holocaust through Theater

On May 23, 2019, in cooperation with Congregation Ansche Chesed, Remember the Women Institute commemorated the Holocaust in the chapel of the synagogue at West 100th Street, New York City.

Featuring:
• A tribute to acclaimed Israeli novelist and playwright Nava Semel by Dr. Rochelle G. Saidel
• The Boxa new short play written by Cynthia L. Cooper, performed by Kate Fuglei
• Claude & Marcel, a play-in-progress written by Dr. Meghan Brodie, performed by Madelyn James and Clare McKelway
• Fanny and Gabriel, an unpublished excerpt, written by Nava Semel, performed by Ginger Grace and introduced by Dr. Sonja M. Hedgepeth
• A panel discussion about women, theater, and the Holocaust

The event marks the launch of the fourth edition of Remember the Women Institute’s Women, Theater, and the Holocaust Resource Handbook, as a free downloadable PDF (3.3 MB).

The program was also part of the National Jewish Theater Foundation–Holocaust Theater International Initiative’s Remembrance Readings Day.
