In commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Remember the Women Institute co-sponsored a special Zoom event with the Women in the Holocaust International Study Center (WHISC). The topic was Sexual Violence against Women during the Holocaust, with a discussion that updated Sexual Violence against Jewish Women during the Holocaust, the groundbreaking anthology that Dr. Sonja M. Hedgepeth and Dr. Rochelle G. Saidel co-edited in 2010.

The discussion examined the documentation, interpretation, and silencing of sexual violence in Holocaust history.

Participants:

Prof. Dr. Lily Zamir, WHISC Initiator and Academic Director, speaking about Enemy or Ally? The Female Body: Gendered Violence – From Scripture to the Holocaust and October 7, 2023

Prof. Dr. Sonja M. Hedgepeth, Professor Emerita at Middle Tennessee State University, and Dr. Rochelle G. Saidel, Founding Director of Remember the Women Institute, in dialog about Sexual Violence against Jewish Women during the Holocaust: Do You Believe Them Now?

Prof. Dr. Marta Havryshko, Visiting Assistant Professor, Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Clark University, USA, discussing Sexual Violence During the Holocaust: Between Victimization and Agency

Questions and answers followed, with an audience of 100 participants.
