CONGRATULATIONS, GLORIA STEINEM, RECIPIENT OF THE PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM

Remember the Women Institute congratulates Gloria Steinem, who has been named to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest honor awarded to civilians. In its announcement, the White House noted that Steinem is "a leader in the women’s liberation movement, co-founded Ms. magazine, and helped launch a wide variety of groups and publications dedicated to advancing civil rights." Ms. Steinem has also helped Remember the Women Institute with our work on sexual violence against Jewish women during the Holocaust. We are proud to consider her a friend of our Institute, and wish her Mazal Tov on the occasion of this well-deserved honor. Ms. Steinem is one of 16 recipients who will be honored by President Obama at the White House later this year. The medal is “presented to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the U.S., to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.”
