Bubby's Kitchen
Manhattan JCC

New York, NY
April 28-30, 2016, 7:30pm

Cantor Shira Ginsburg will perform her musical play Bubby’s Kitchen at the Manhattan JCC.

She will also perform excerpts at the May 2 Evening of Dramatic Readings and Performances co-sponsored by Remember the Women Institute and American Jewish Historical Society.

Bubby's Kitchen is a one-act one-woman musical written by Cantor Ginsburg that explores the themes of the legacy of Jewish women's voices, Jewish identity, self-realization, and the personal synthesis of Jewish history, against the backdrop of the Holocaust and modern day America. Inspired by the heroic actions of resistance her grandparents took against the Nazis as partisans in the forests of Belarus, the performance is the story of one young woman’s struggle to live up to her grandparents’ incredible legacy. Yudis and Motke Ginsburg made their way to America at the end of World War II and started a farm in Troy, NY, where Cantor Ginsburg grew up. She weaves together a story of loss, survival, food and family with vibrancy and wit.
